Azul Sensatori, Riviera Cancun, Mexico

In May my in-laws came to me and said they want to go on a last minute vacation. In the end my daughter and I ended up going with them as well as my sister-in-law. It was booked less then 2 weeks before we left! That is pretty last minute for most people but when you work in the travel industry it becomes reality!

Azul Sensatori is part of Karisma Hotels and Resorts. The majority of their resorts are in Mexico ranging from family friendly, to adult only. In the Caribbean they also have resorts in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. Other areas with hotels include Columbia, Serbia and Croatia.

All of us loved our stay at this resort!

From Cancun airport it was less then 20 mins to our hotel and that was with one stop at The Royalton. When you arrive you are treated to a glass of champagne or in my daughters case a chocolate shake. You also get a cold towel that smells like eucalyptus. It was so refreshing! If you are in the luxury section you are treated to a private check in that is just off the main lobby.

This resort has just over 400 rooms, all of which have a Jacuzzi in them. When we got to our room we fell in love. The pool was less then 10 steps away from our rooms sliding door. We were happy to know that our sliding doors locked when they were closed but we quickly figured out that it is easy to lock yourself out! Each building has its own personal concierge if you need anything.

This resort has 3 pools, 2 main ones that wrap around 2 of the restaurants and one that is strictly adult only. There are also swim out suite options, some with just pool access and others with a private outdoor Jacuzzi right beside the pool.

There are 7 different restaurants on the property. Spoon is the buffet restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. A cute addition to this is the kids part. On the far wall there is a spread of kid friendly food that is easily accessible. You can find nutella or peanut butter sandwiches at breakfast, fresh fruit cups, fondue chocolate fountain with fruit and marshmallows to dip into it as well as a variety of other kid friendly things. Tapaz has a variety of international items for dinner and then after dinner bites. Siena is the Italian restaurant. The food here is great but the service was lacking a little bit. They did bring a delicious desert for my sister-in-law and sang her happy birthday! Zavaz is the Caribbean restaurant that has breakfast, lunch and dinner. Eggs Benedict, jerk chicken pasta and spring rolls are just a sample of what you will find here! Zocalo is the Mexican restaurant that also serves breakfast lunch and dinner. There is a taco bar all day and a desert bar at lunch. The churros are delicious!! Overall the food was good but I would have to say that Zavaz was our favourite.

There is one other restaurant called Le Chique. This is an adult only restaurant and by reservation only. It is a very contemporary twist on a tasting menu. My sister-in-law and I were able to eat here one of the nights and I can say it was a very unique experience.  This restaurant is a five star, the highest rated restaurant in all of Mexico. There are two chefs tables available for an extra cost, one right in the kitchen and the other one in a clear glass wine room which provides a more private experience but still experience the unique Le Chique atmosphere. The basic 16 course menu is included with the “all inclusive price” of the resort. You may upgrade to a juice pairing menu for $18 each, which is what we did. Then there are wine tasting pairings that range from $50-$150 depending on the amount. On the higher priced ones you are moved up to 22 or more tastings. The wine and extra tastings are what you receive at the chefs tables. Our meal started off with a FOAM Mango Mojito. I won’t go into detail of everything I ate but I will post the pictures and let your imagination figure it out!

I would recommend this resort to anyone that have children, from newborns to younger teens. There is a great splash pad for kids as well as a wading pool and small slide for slightly older kids. The kids play area was under construction when we were there because of the Nickelodeon additions they are adding coming July 2015. They had turned two guest rooms into the kid play rooms. There is a great variety of toys for kids under 4 to play with. There are game consoles and great childrens programs for kids over 4 that do not need to have parent supervision. There is also a teens club that has WII, a pool table, foozeball, as well as basketball. This area turns into a club once the nightly entertainment is finished.

The kids amenities do not stop there. You do not need to bring baby food with you or any large accessories like strollers and play pens. We asked for a crib and were given that, a humidifier and a baby bath with it. They have an abundance of high chairs in all restaurants as well as booster seats. They also have strollers you can use around the resort although it is not that big. In the spa they have a kids girl and boy room where your little person can get pampered! The best thing for kids hands down are the cute little lounge chairs they have in the kid section!!IMG_5915IMG_5919IMG_5920IMG_6299IMG_6297IMG_6296IMG_6298

The entertainment was really good. There was everything from acrobats to “Il Divo” concert and magicians. On Wednesday nights if the weather is nice they do a beach party with fire dancers and A LOT of dancing! This was the most fun we had the whole week! There is also a tennis court, archery, kayaking and snorkeling at the resort.

Of course I cannot go to a resort without testing out the Spa! My sister in law and I had pedicures one day and a massage another. When you book a massage it is your choice to have it inside or at their sky massage which is elevated over the beach overlooking the ocean. We chose the sky massage because it is a unique experience and found it amazing. Before your massage you are allowed to arrive early and use the steam room, sauna and tubs. The lady guided us through the experience starting us off in the steam room for 10 mins, then on to the sauna for another 10. After that you slip into the warm whirlpool and then the cool whirlpool. From there you are walked to the front where you wait for the therapist who then brings you to the sky massage. Overall the experience was amazing!

There is also another activity to do on the resort property called Athens Clue. There are two rooms to choose from, one more difficult then the other. For $30 (2 people) you chose a room and are locked in it for 45 minutes. You can add an extra person for $5. The task is to solve all the puzzles and escape from the room before the time is up. If you pay for one room you get to to the other one complimentary. We had so much fun doing this and both rooms were challenging!

We were also lucky enough to see turtle eggs being moved while we were there! The turtles had laid there eggs where the volleyball takes place so workers dig them up and take them over to the other side of the resort where it is protected.

If you are looking at getting married there are lots of options for you at this resort! The sky wedding takes place on top of one of the buildings. The neat feature of this package is the streaming option. If you have guests who are unable to make it the resort will stream the ceremony over the internet so your guests won’t miss anything! You can also get married on the beach. There are a few different options for receptions including right by the pool under a gazebo.

Overall this resort is great and I would definitely go back especially when they are starting the Nickelodeon experience!
